Have you ever felt like the life you are living is not the life you were meant to live? Most people are too busy chasing results in their life that they never stop long enough to realize if what they are chasing is something they want.
One of my favorite books is Michael Gerber’s, The E-Myth Revisited. In that book, he makes a profound statement about most small business owners. He says most small business owners are so busy working in their business; they don’t work on their business. I take this concept further… Are you too busy working in your life, that you don’t work on your life?
I came to the startling answer to that question in my own life two years ago. I was too busy working in my life, and not spending enough time focused on the ideas that matter. Namely, am I Happy? Am I fulfilled? Am I spending enough time with my wife and family? Am I growing every day? Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer yes to any of those questions. On the outside, my business and life were successful. On the inside, MASS CHAOS.
Perhaps, you the reader, feel the same way about your own life and business. You are moving and moving fast. But do you honestly know the answers to these questions: What you are moving fast towards? What is your ultimate destination? Is your destination going to bring you peace and prosperity? Have you created a picture of the life you want to live?
You may be asking at this point, “So if I am in this position, what do I do?” The answer is remarkably simple. It’s not yoga or meditation or positive psychology, although all of those things can help. The answer can be found in many good books but it is often neglected: PURSUE THOSE THINGS YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT!
Seems so simple, right? “That can’t possibly be the answer” you are thinking to yourself. Well, it is. When I connected to my passions (creating, teaching, building businesses and expanding ideas), my life INSTANTLY improved. I was happier and more at peace. Then a strange thing happened. My income skyrocketed. The reason is simple: When you are pursuing your passions, you can push past the point where most quit when they first hit a bump in the road. It’s easier to move past these bumps because you are doing something you love. And staying power matters. Napoleon Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich, said that ““Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure.” By pursuing your passions, you are more likely to get over that failure which is the stopping point for most people. Another strange thing happened to me personally when I got serious about pursuing my passions. My habit patterns improved dramatically (which is the fundamental key to success in any endeavor), I meant amazing people who helped me in my pursuits, I was spending more time doing what I enjoy, and I had more time for my wife!
You may say well that’s great you were able to connect to your passions in the field of dentistry and personal growth and development, but my passions are so strange, I couldn’t make a living doing it. Whether you can make a living pursuing your passions is a topic for another article, but it is a fact that the internet has allowed anyone to be successful in pursuing their passions. The key is finding a way to monetize your passion. By monetizing your passion, you can begin to do more of what you love and less of what you don’t! Do you love flowers? Make an online-program on taking care of exotic flowers. Don’t think someone would buy it? Think again!
The only person stopping you from living a life of more freedom and true to yourself is you! One of my mentors, Bob Proctor, was quoted saying “You are the only problem you will ever have and you are the only solution.” How true this is. Take stock of your life right now. Are you living the life you imagined? Are you so busy working in your life that you don’t work on your life? Are you creating the life you want or reacting to the life you already have? Are you pursuing your passions? Believe me; life is so much more beautiful when you do!
